I think I read an article by the gentleman in question in an old US
Soaring magazine.

As with many of the other people that commented, I love the very
innocent "Oh my gosh, what's he doing?" and "That was like, very
umm..."
It also makes you think about the good ol' days when this was
common practice.
Airbrakes? Luxury, we used to DREAM of havin' airbrakes...
