Having acquired a set of the Horsa Pilot's notes, I felt that perhaps it would have been possible to thermal one. So I asked if it had ever been done - and apparently someone did successfully thermal a Horsa (in the UK no less). Unfortunately, more details of this were not available.
My mind immediately imagined the TIF possibilities - Horsa's each carried some 25 fully armed airborne troops!!! All we would need is a C47 (or Halifax or similar), a long enough runway... There's at least one C47 flying in Australia - mind you, I don't think that they would want to use it for glider towing. After the war, ex-glider towing C47's were refurbished and sold. During the refurbishment, it was found that they had 'stretched' by up to 4 inches!!! -- Robert Hart [EMAIL PROTECTED] +61 (0)438 385 533 http://www.hart.wattle.id.au _______________________________________________ Aus-soaring mailing list [email protected] To check or change subscription details, visit: http://lists.internode.on.net/mailman/listinfo/aus-soaring
