Not correct - the GME MT410 series is a PLB and is not a substitute for
an EPIRB where an EPIRB is required - check you state boating laws for EPIRB
requirements - each state is different.
However CAR 252A does allow you to carry an EPIRB in your aircraft to meet
the requirements provided it meets the Australian Standards and is
Registered - you can thank Bill Hamilton when he was President of the AOPA
for that - Australia is one of the few countries in the world that allow
that flexibility :)

I agree if size and weight is an issue the Fastfind 211 is the way to
go - the penalty with the Fastfind is a 5 year approved battery life V a 7
years with the GME410 product.
As most of you know I am one of the people on the other end of these things
when they are activated; to date I have not been involved with a Fastfind
211 activation, they are relatively new on the market. However I have
coordinated several responses to GME410G activations and in every case I
have dealt with they have performed well. The reality is that they all
should work well if deployed correctly, they all have to meet very high
standards to get through the approval process.

The GME unit is 135 x 71 x 38 mm
The fastfind 211 is 106 x 47 x 34 mm
The fastfind is considerably smaller which might matter if attached
to parachute harness.
I've dealt with GME. Not impressed.
