Hi Peter, As you may or may not be aware we are distributer for SPOT we elected not to launch SPOT 2's because if the problem they have.
We are aware there is more than a couple unscrupulous resellers selling SPOT 2 knowing full well, or they should have, that there is a problem with them. It is a shame you have been bitten by this as the problem has been widely known of for a number of weeks now. Everyone should also be cautious when buying from overseas as your warranty won't be valid in Australia despite maybe what you are told by the overseas supplier. They just want to sell you one but if you have a problem you will need to ship it back to them at some expense. I will keep the group informed of updates and when working SPOT 2's are available. Due to the 'voluntary' recall SPOT have disabled new registrations so I have a useless device (presumably until the new Spot 2's are available some time next year). Also the $25 rebate and free tracking requires registration by 31 December - this is of no use to me because I can't register. SPOT support say there are no plans to extend this deadline. What a monumental screw up. Beware that suppliers are still selling the Spot 2. Mine's being returned to the supplier with the promise of a full refund.
