Well I am going to change it from 2 year ASIC and why not ASIC issued for 6 or 10 years (they do a passport for 10 years). Or why not tie the 10 year ASIC to to a current pilot licence or even passport. Germany used to if you lost your drivers licence then you loose your pilot privileges. That is fair enough. I would not mind if it were tied to Drivers licence or even a current passport if it was 6 or 10 year ASIC. I am not sure how to handle LAMEs and baggage handlers etc but make them have a 2 year ASIC as their employer usually pays.
What really gets me is "visitors" to Australia who wish to learn to fly here (from Mainland China, India or Arab countries) must have and Aussie ASIC and there details are given to their embassy and the embassy just sign the paperwork and back it comes. These people maybe should be issues a lower standard ASIC maybe for their stay in Australia. There are some secure airports are just slack, there are others who police the rules reasonably (Like you must have ASIC at main RPT Apron but in the GA area and you are a pilot then while it is required but no policing of same) and then there the airports with the would be Hitlers who think they are gods gift to Aviation Security. These fools who will not even give you the gate code and operate gate them selves should be shamed from all airports. As a regional security man said to me recently we do not want genuine pilots to bypass our airport and besides strict policing of ASICs turns pilot visitors away. I just sort of hope sometime one of the "visitors" from the countries I listed do the wrong thing then and only then may the government listen. Remember CASA have recently reduced the DAMP (Drug and Alcohol Policy) for small operators so just maybe ASIC next!!!. As some know you can go to a certain street in Bangkok pay your $35 and they will issue a new 2 year ASIC including the Aussie hologram while you wait!!!!!!!!. What is the point and do not tell me the criminals do not know about this one. Ian McPhee PS Don't get me going about that guy (yes another Hitler) on southcoast of NSW who issues ASICs and is also incharge of security at his little airport and changes the gate code during the day just to be a pain to all.
