' Afternoon Mark,
Certainly you should expect a better range than what is reported. I
can reliably get a signal to the International Space Station when it's
over Australia with 50 watts on 145 MHz (or thereabouts)
Further information might narrow down the number of potential problem
options.
The problem we are have is with receiving transmissions, a lot of static and
a lot of times unreadable and yet transmission is fine.
Who is having the trouble receiving / hearing - mobiles or the base
station? (or both).
How do you know that the "transmission is fine .."? Someone must have
good reception to make the statement.
Is the problem the same with all mobiles?
Can your mobiles talk to each other directly? (or do you have a trunked
system - every communication goes through the base radio?)
If above (a) applies, is the exchange of messages between mobile
stations better than what is experienced from the base station.
A slow deterioration over the past 6 - 12 months suggests a gradual
breakdown of some part of the system - water in the base station coaxial
cable is one possibility - if indeed the base station is the
culprit. If that is established, a check on the power output of
the base transceiver, and a VSWR check on the antenna installation are
essential first steps in identifying the weak link.
I would be surprised if it's an RF interference issue, however, if you
can assist with the above details / observations, it should be possible
to narrow down the cause and find a fix.

Hello All,
As some of you know I work for the taxi company here in Benalla.
We are having issues with our VHF radio's.
Was just wondering if some of you with more knowledge than I could offer
some advice ?

The radios run at 150.2 mHz. These issues are only over a distance of 3-5
km's.
We use to get 15 k +.
And have been getting worse over the last 6-12 months.
Cheers
