Hi Mark,

I run a business which services and installs Digital Television antenna's
and have recently had to involve ACMA (Australian communications and Media
Authority) to sort out interference problems for consumer TV's. I have to
sign off that I have tested the antenna system with a suitable
meter/spectrum analyzer. Once this done I provide this data to ACMA who then
commences an investigation into possible sources of interference.

In your instance, I suggest you should involve your radio technician or
company that supplies and services your equipment. They will have the
knowhow to test your systems to ascertain that the equipment is functioning
correctly including the antenna systems. This being the case the next
course of action is to contact the ACMA, these are the people that license
your equipment and allocate the frequency you are operating on (High band
VHF). Their responsibility is to administer and police the radio spectrum
for all users. They have spectral analysis equipment with which they can
investigate any sources of interference and the legislative power to take
action against the source.

In the worse case scenario ACMA may allocate your company with a new
frequency within the VHF band (unfortunately this will mean retuning the
radio's.

I hope this is of help to you.

Mark,

You seem to be receiving some good ideas, but I wonder if they are really
addressing the issue?

If I read you correctly, in comparison to (relatively recent??) good past
performance, thing have got worse without anything material being changed
in the system. If that is the case then there must either be an external
cause, or something has changed within the system that you do not know
about.

Considering the former. What has changed around Benalla in the recent past
that might affect your reception? Is it a matter of atmospherics: Is anybody
else using this band - maybe in Shepparton - experiencing similar problems?

Considering the latter, start with the simplest things first - ie poor
connections. Mal Bruce made some good suggestions here. Maybe you just have
a replacement parts issue? Does your company have a reliable technician, to
maintain/service the gear?

If on the other hand you actually HAVE made one or more changes to the
system, then you need to revisit those changes, and see if one (or a
combination), are the cause of the problem .

Good luck.

Regards,

Gary

Subject: [Aus-soaring] Non Aviation Radio Communication Issue

Hello All,

As some of you know I work for the taxi company here in Benalla.

We are having issues with our VHF radio's.

Was just wondering if some of you with more knowledge than I could offer
some advice ?

The problem we are have is with receiving transmissions, a lot of static and
a lot of times unreadable and yet transmission is fine.

The radios run at 150.2 mHz. These issues are only over a distance of 3-5
km's.

We use to get 15 k +.

And have been getting worse over the last 6-12 months.

Cheers

Mark Goodley
