At the NSW Ops meeting held over the weekend the potential danger to the public
of aero tow rope releases at the tug during launching was raised as an aside.

The risk of subsequent rope release by the glider pilot without first checking
that it will fall into a low risk area is something to think about. I'd expect
a dropping rope and rings from height would represent a greater likelihood than
that from falling debris from mid air collisions.

Of course operationally it may be necessary to drop the rope immediately but if
there is time it might pay to consider the above.

The competition website, Jantar Cup 2014 (Polish only): http://jantarcup.pl/
also talks about a person seriously injured on the ground by falling glider
debris.
