Ah - adventure.
True - you are usually a long way away when it happens :-)
Proper pre-planning is required in order to stay on the increasing side of
the Yerkes–Dodson Law curve - otherwise it can turn bad.
I am not a thrill seeker. I push into the right hand side of that curve in
controlled environments - not when I have SAR cancellation requirements to
deal with.

I could track commercial airlines with the help of my raspberry pie and sdr
after an outlanding in no-mobile-reception areas and make a radio call and
get them to relay.
I don't really like being in a situation of "Houston! In the blind!"..
