Actually there are *three* websites where the Docs project is located:
OOo, OOoAuthors, and the OOo Documentation wiki. The OOo Docs project
has been evolving over the years in terms of the type of documentation
and the form in which it is provided. The original OOo website used (and
still does) a cumbersome (and difficult for many people to use) method
of tracking documentation, so OOoAuthors was set up with an
easier-to-use interface. A few years ago the wiki was set up, as an even
more accessible way for contributors to collaborate.
At present all documents are provided to users by means of the wiki, but
those docs may be produced through OOoAuthors or the wiki, or even
privately. Users can also search for info from the OOo website, but in
most cases the results of their search are located on the wiki.
Documents on the wiki may be in one or more forms: wiki format itself,
PDF, and/or ODT. It's important to understand that the *means of
production* of a document does not immediately equate to the *form in
which it is delivered to users*. For example, the user guides are
produced and maintained in ODT format through the OOoAuthors website,
and are then exported as PDF and converted to wiki format for multiple
delivery formats. On the other hand, most of the docs for *developers*
are produced and maintained in wiki format, although also available in
ODT and PDF. This difference in production is due to the preferences of
those people who do most of the work on the docs.
More later... boarding for my flight from Moscow (Russia) to Singapore
will be called any moment. Time to pack up.
