Hi Daniel,
thank you for your answer.
I assumed that may be the list refused my email, because I was not its
member and that I had to subscribe to the list. But I found no explicit
word about it.
Where did you read this? Which page were you looking at?
This is the page I have in mind:
http://oooauthors.org/en
This page says:
1. Join the OOoAuthors site.
2. Join the mailing list.
3. Request author role
So the page says to join the mailing list before it says to write.
Are we looking at the same page? If you looked at a different page, then
I'd like to know what page it was so we can fix it.
We are not talking about the same page. In fact the english version gave
me the hint what to do. The german page http://oooauthors.org/de/ did not.
It has been changed as Marko pointed out.
A second point where things could be easier.
I managed to make the subscription and after confirming I retried to
send my initial email again. This time it works. First success, but not
what I wanted, because I had to learn that I had to write my demand for
the authors-role in a different way. "Post your oooauthors-name to the
list." As a none native english speaker I had to figure out, what "to
post a name to a list" really meant.
The third point on that list links to a page that should explain this.
Did you see this page? Did the page fail at explaining the process of
asking author role? How can we fix it?
I stepped back and forth between the english and the german version. As
information in german was poor I found what I was looking for at
http://oooauthors.org/en/en/authors/userguide2/resources/howto_author
A third point where to make this process easier. And again as a
newcomer I was insure to whom I would speak.
Yes, naturally. Most newcomers are hesitant, and it's important to make
the process easy and make them feel welcome.
An example would have been helpful, the email of somebody else, who did
this before, just to lower the hurdle.
If I had known about it, I propably would have chosen a different
oooauthors-name and tried to change mine.
Feel free to make a new Authors login name. I can delete your old one.
Thank you for this offer. I wanted to explain that even this was a problem
while I was still outside and wanted to get in, because I was insure to
whom I was exposing.
For my person a form to fill in a username and to give some structured
feed back on experiences and aims would have been the perfect entry.
I'm not sure I understand this. Could you elaborate? How would we used a
structured feedback form in this project? (writing documentation).
The origin of this idea is a marketing approach: Do it with one single
click, instead of asking three times for a permission. Use a given form to
introduce yourself:
I want ... as my username
I am an OpenOffice.org developer No/Yes since
I am an OpenOffice.org user No/Yes since
I have experience in teaching OpenOffice.org No/Yes since
My special application is ( )writer ( )draw ( )math ...
I am experienced in producing screenshots No/Yes
My professional background is......
I would mostly work in this language...
I would appreciate to have a tutor, please name me one
Here is my further comment:
I am not talking about to let anybody do everything, but to make it easier
to join.
regards
Hinrich
