The default must be set ON because I do not remember explicitly setting
it to anything (or even knowing where to set it--probably the general
options?). In any event, is this recent feature adequately disclosed on
the GS or elsewhere in any other current documentation?
I added a brief item about it to Chapter 5, "Setting up OOo" in
the Getting Started book (page 11), published 5 November. Whether
what I've got there is "adequate" I leave to you and others to
decide. :)
I thought the "Online Update" options page in OOo itself was
fairly self-explanatory, and didn't think to mention in the
chapter what the default setting was. I've just now read the Help
for this feature, and I see some more info that perhaps should be
included in the setup chapter. Alas, although the help mentions
default settings, it doesn't actually say what those settings are!
I don't remember if this feature was on by default in 2.0.4 or if
I turned it on (it's on now, but 2.1 picked up all my existing
settings from 2.0.4).
