Dear All,

Last Friday I became a member of
http://www.oooauthors.org/ and signed up to this
mailing list. Now, I thought it might be a good idea
if first of all I introduced myself.

I am a native German speaker permanently living in
Scotland. I qualified as a technical translator for
the languages English and Spanish to German at the
Hochschule-Magdeburg-Stendal (FH) in 2001.
As it happens, I didn't go into freelance translations
immediately and got sidetracked for a few years. Now,
I have decided to start freelance translation work
after all, but find myself in the catch-22 situation
of no work no reference, no references no work.

I have always been hovering on the edge of IT topics
due to my previous work environment, my husband's
interest in everything IT, currently Mac, and my
sister, who is an application developer, but I don't
have any officially recorded experience myself.

I am working with Mac OS X 10.4, OpenOffice.org and
OmegaT and thought by helping you I could test run
everything in combination and also gain more
experience. What do you thinK?

I would be greatful if you nodged me in the right
direction as to where to start. I currently have
downloaded your guidelines, but I admit to not having
worked through them, yet.

I am looking forward to joining the project.

Kind Regards,

Peggy Strachan

Are you up to doing some English reviewing, writing, etc? Some of the guides are really getting old, not having been reviewed lately.

You could verify what's old by checking the published date on the Web site or at the start of the latest version of each ODT chapter.

You also might need the author status to do some of that. Let me know if you do.

Can anybody fill me/us in on what exactly each status designation--member, author, manager, etc.--may or may not be able to do or access on the Web site?

Gary
