Does anybody have any objections to having the frames used for the OOoAuthors figures being replaced with tables--and not using frames any longer for the OOoAuthors docs?

The captions enclosed within Writer frames often convert poorly to Word and are not as easy to work with. Furthermore, the Writer frames themselves will cause an attempt to generate a FrameMaker file from a converted DOC file from a Writer ODT file that even contains one frame. Such a failed attempt will actually lock up the FrameMaker application so badly that FrameMaker needs to be killed via the Windows Task Manager in Windows Vista.

Does anybody see any redeeming social value with using OOo Writer frames when they convert poorly to MS Word, plus their causing FrameMaker to bomb? Continuing to create documents that cannot be freely and cleanly be converted to other file formats does not appear to be professional. What advantage is there of being able to convert to/from ODT and DOC if some things (the ones that we do) don't convert well?

A workaround is simply to substitute tables for the offensive frames, which, AFAIK, seem to work fine after conversion to DOC or further converted to FrameMaker. For example, getting an ODT file eventually to FrameMaker is a reliable manner of creating XML files without doing songs and dances.

In any event, I am in the process of changing Chapter 4 of the Draw Guide where all its previous frames are eliminated. In addition, I am listing in my weblog those OOo items that don't migrate well to DOC.
