OOo Frames don't retain the caption formatting when converted to DOC.
Yes, but again, is there a reason to convert to DOC other than to then
convert to FrameMaker?
One of our authors, Andrew Pitonyak, re-uses in other books the material he
gives to OOoAuthors, but his editor uses Word. He sends his chapters in DOC
format to that person, who has problems with the frames. That, to me, may
be an argument for not using frames in Andrew's chapters -- but not for
removing them from our template and our processes altogether.

Nobody would convert our ODT to DOC and beyond, and I never intended
to imply that anybody would or should. But, if ease of conversion of
OOo to/from DOC was a serious "selling point" for OOo, Writer should
be developed to do those things better, and much easier than at present.
That's an excellent argument for improving OOo's export (or "save as")
capabilities, but not for changing our (OOoAuthors') template and processes
to something less convenient *for our own use* in producing OOo documentation.
