The options available in the Adobe PDF printer file driver are several
and very detailed. I just checked the printer file for my ScanSoft (now
Nuance) PDFCreate! application. It was only a small subset of options
that the Adobe PDF file has available.
To my surprise, ScanSoft does far better OCR and PDF conversions of
scanned bitmaps to MS Word than does Acrobat 8 Professional. I have a
client who wants me to do OCR-text extraction of some 50 bitmap files
she scanned of some public-domain print material, which I then convert
its graphics also to Word. It does a fab job, whereas Acrobat not so, BTW.
