Hey Barbara,
Welcome to the group. :)
Someone with administrative privileges should be granting you author
status soon.
Thanks,
Sak.

I would like to begin with proofreading or reviewing documentation. I
have lots of experience writing technical documents, but don't feel I
know enough about Open Office yet to write. However, I believe I might
be helpful proofing.
I am receiving email from the Authors group, but apparently do not have
authorization to read the documentation that was mentioned in a recent
email with this URL:

Could you tell me what is the best way to begin? Thanks.

sbtobias is now an author... [Let me know if you cannot access the good
stuff.]
You can start out by reading a helluva lot of organizational/SOP stuff
here: http://oooauthors.org/en/authors/userguide3/res3/.
I haven't checked out some of them myself lately, so I might as well do
so myself.
You could practice proofing or reviewing any file. But you might not
find (m)any errors on some that have already been copyedited. Right now,
there are lots of files needing copyediting, as I haven't done them
lately. After I can get version 3.x running here again, I'll start in on
the copyediting.
Feel free to start in anywhere, though. [We all make mistakes...] But,
you won't break anything if you do anything wrong. Remember to track
your changes via the Edit menu.
