Welcome, Anna! Everyone is too busy to contribute a lot of time, so we can really use another experienced reviewer/copyeditor on the team.
Regarding macros, you have probably discovered the "Getting Started with Macros" chapter, written by Andrew Pitonyak, our resident macro guru and author of _OpenOffice.org Macros Explained_ (a book I recommend to anyone who is serious about writing macros in OOBasic, though I have to admit that as one of the technical editors of Andrew's book, I have an interest in more sales).
The examples in Andrew's Getting Started chapter are for Writer, and various chapters in the Writer Guide which mention macros point to that chapter. (Andrew has also written two chapters on macros in the Calc Guide, and Mark Bain has written a book, _Learn OpenOffice.org Spreadsheet Macro Programming_.)
Andrew's macros chapters include links to some other resources at the end (including his own website), but I find most of them a bit heavy going, as I am almost totally inexperienced with macros and feel quite daunted by the learning curve ("wrestle" sounds like a great verb in this context). I would love to have more tutorials (with really useful examples) for beginners like me, and other docs aimed at people coming from MS VBA macros. Quite probably there are some good tutorials on the Web, but we don't know about them.
