I must admit my motives are not altogether altruistic. I have recently started a language services company and some of the services I want to offer are technical writing, proofreading, editing, etc. Unfortunately with no experience it is difficult to convince customers give you a try. So I would very grateful for any help or guidance in these areas.
Welcome! Seems to me that a motive such as yours (to have something to show potential customers) is likely to lead to better results for OOo than a purely "altruistic" motive. So no need to apologise.
Do you have experience with spreadsheets? The Calc Guide is desperately in need of help. If not, or if you prefer to start with something less ambitious, there's plenty to do on other books, or in how-to's, tutorials, FAQs...
In addition to the OOo-specific info on the OOoAuthors website, you might like to look around my personal website for technical editors for some tips on technical writing and editing. http://jeanweber.com/ Also, if you don't already subscribe to one or more of the several mailing lists for techwriters/editors, I encourage you to do so. Look in the Links section of my website. (Warning: some of the info on my website is out of date and some links may be broken. I'd appreciate a private note if you spot anything that I should fix; I've been a bit too busy to keep that website up to date.)
