Your list summarises what I do, with one exception. For the images, I unzip the .odt file, extract the Pictures folder, and rename the pictures.

And as T.J. mentioned, I use his Basic code to convert the (filter-generated) table-format Note / Tip / Caution to the {{Documentation/Note(etc.)}} format used in the English user guides. But the German guide may use different coding for the Notes/etc.

Yes, the whole process is time-consuming. For me, step 4 takes the longest, because of the need to clean up cross-references between wiki pages, insert names of images, and clean up what you called "filter trash" (good term).

4. review .txt file (mainly insert image file names but also remove some minor 
filter trash)
