I'd tried with a clipping object, and it gave me wild artifacts in the
skybox.
Maybe this was due to setting the z axis aswell? I will experiment.

I've just tried it your alternative way and it works perfectly.

As a feature request, would it be an idea to add this as an (optional)
argument to the View constructor,
with default to no clipping?
