Can you develop a bit more on this?

are you saying that

plane.material = mat1;
plane.back = mat2;

when bended that mat2 doesn't render properly?
cause this means that uv's would be affected and I dougth that as3dmod is doing 
that.
so question is more, have you assigned the materials as the above example or in 
a custom fashion?
