still do not see how away or asmod would influence the uv's
but this aside
why don't u apply the "rule of the biggest"
meaning here that you could define the ratio of your plane based on the largest 
width/height of the 2 images
and just place the images in a container where alpha fills the area of the 
images that is not in ratio.
