I think one should best treat images as background, so they go below the text
(why would I want an image in front of my text? Other way around makes sense to 
me).

Can one still stack "widgets" through the widget layouts? (Did that ever work?)
I know that on X11 you can tell a graphics context to draw over child windows,
but no idea how this could work together with cairo. What if I want one big
background image on my wibox? (With the "old style" meaning of wibox)

And for the (v)align properties: It wouldn't be much extra code to have
text_(v)align and image_(v)align, would it? One could also use (v)align and
image_(v)align (If this turns out to be a lot of code this can be thought over
again).
