Can one still stack "widgets" through the widget layouts? (Did that ever work?)
Yes, it did work, and it still works partly: wiboxes are now opaques,
unless you have some compositing manager, and I don't think we can't
make them transparent (or please, give ma hint, I'm still discovering X).
Okay, from my understanding (I haven't really read the specs on any of these
extensions):
With the compositing extension you can redirect window's content to offscreen
pixmaps (and via XDamage you find out when you need to update stuff). The actual
transparent rendering is then done through XRender. (One copies the window's
content from the offscreen pixmap to the real screen)
No idea how partly-transparent windows work with this (which I know for sure is
possible, one selects the proper visual and can draw partly transparent stuff,
but only if there is a running compositing manager this transparent stuff
actually becomes transparent).
Since farhaven looked at xcompmgr's code for one or two seconds, perhaps he can
shed some light on the details?..
who will install e17 soon
Die bitch.
Hey, it was your idea :P
