Sanjiva,

With all due respect, there is more here than an *intent* to work on
something. Dave and his crew have provided working, well written and well
thought out code. They've done the work already and are continuing to do
work and are willing to support it and continually develop it over time.
As far as I'm concerned, that gives them the priviledge to be active
members of the project, more so, in fact, than others who may be weighing
in on this discussion who have not directly contributed code to this
project in quite some time (if ever) ... myself included.

Glyn and others,

"critical bug fixes to enable a JMS transport" doesn't make sense. The
JMS transport that Sonic provided does not qualify as a "critical bug fix"
but new functionality that previously did not exist in Axis. Furthermore,
As Glen indicated, the intent to contribute this WAS initially posted to
the Axis dev list which is what led to their being nominated for committer
status.

I can fully understand your concerns but given the facts, I'm having a
hard time understanding what the beef is. It may be that I'm just an
overly simple and naive bumpkin from backwoods California, but I'd much
rather focus on getting work done than debate over process.

    1) the new code does not break or interfere with anything else in the
project
    2) the new code has not delayed or otherwise sidetracked the 1.0
release schedule
    3) the Sonic folks intend to fully support and continually develop the
code and
    4) adding new committers does not in anyway interfere with the work
everyone else is doing .... unless you let it
