Hi Robert,

I've worked a lot with the Sao Miguel records. I'd say that 99% of people
leaving the port of Ponta Delgada on Sao Miguel were from Sao Miguel and
Santa Maria islands. On occasion, you do see a rare person or family from
another island. Perhaps they really needed the next ship to America, so
they left from a different port (I think most Flores people left from Horta
on Faial, but I've never worked with those records). The records for Sao
Miguel for 1882 are online at the CCA web site.
Use Internet Explorer (Firefox doesn't work after a certain point)
http://pg.azores.gov.pt/drac/cca/ig/
Click on Passaportes in the right column
Click on Ponta Delgad in the center of the next screen
Choose 1882 from the list ont he next screen.

>From there, you can compare it to the arrival on the American end at the
Ellis Island web site.
