Thanks everyone! I'd actually looked at the Ellis Island records, but
couldn't find the image my cousin emailed to me. I've asked her to
look at it again if she still has her membership.

Was also going through the passport indexes they have online. WOW!
Talk about some hard to read images. Made it through 1880 and will
keep going through the other years, as I have other relatives to
search. But am skeptical I'm going to fine Cardin/Rodrigues there.
