Elaine, Maria Jose Ferreira Dinis, my maternal grandmother, was born January 19, 1897 in Porto Judeu, Terceira, baptized at Santo Antonio, to Joao Ferreira Dinis born Oct. 28, 1873 in Porto Judeu and Maria Jose Ormonde born Jan. 3, 1870 in Porto Judeu, both baptized at Santo Antonio. In my grandmother's day, Porto Judeu was known only as Porto Judeu. Today, there is a Porto Judeu da Cima and a Porto Judeu da Baixo. The only way I was able to find the house where she was born and also relatives that live in the house and in the neighborhood was to know that she lived on Camino da Cidade. I was told that was in Porto Judeu da Cima and by asking questions I found the property. Walking where my grandmother walked and seeing the things she saw when she lived there is hard to explain. I can only say there is no other feeling like what I felt when I saw the rock walls she had told me she jumped as a child. Celeste, Hayward, CA
