Yes. My family supposedly was in the same vicinity of Ribeira Grande, Sao
Miguel for 500 years so I would say it's an Azorean thing.

My cousin, Guiomar Tavares married Mariano Raposo, but he was from Rabo
Peixe, Sao Miguel. He moved here after he was married and brought his whole
family over and they all live in and around New Bedford, MA. I'm not sure
about his family background. There could be a connection there as well.

Dying to go to Rio, but in the near future when this economy gets better.

Hi, Linda,

My first Azorean forebearers to emmigrate - José Antonio Raposo and Maria
Thereza do Nascimento - arrived in Rio de Janeiro nearly in 1808. Since
they were from São Miguel (Ponta Delgada/Arrifes), there may well be a
connection with the José Raposo mentioned in your post.

I have been trying to discover not only the genealogy of my family, but its
history altogether, so anything on the Raposos of São Miguel will be of
interest to me. Take, for example, the fact that my family lived for 3
generations in the nearest vicinity of the church of the Divine Holy Ghost
here in Rio. That's a very Azorean thing to do, isn't it?

Marcos.
