Apparently, most of you descend from Azoreans who emmigrated to the US
between 1850 and 1920. I'm a stranger in the nest here, because my
people came to Brazil in the early 1800s. They did not actually
emmigrate, because Brazil was part of Portugal at the time.

José Antonio Raposo surely left brothers and sisters in Ponta Delgada,
who may well be the ancestors of many of you. I'll be glad if a
connection is found. In Rio, he chose to live close to the church
where the most typical Azorean cult was upheld, that of the Divine
Holy Ghost.

As to spelling, Raposo and Rapozo are the same thing. And until
perhaps mid 1800, some Raposo women were called Raposa, which is just
the feminin of Raposo (the fox).

By the way, Linda, my mother was Arruda. Arruda is a plant, the rue,
a magic plant. We, Arrudas, are kind of magic...

If any of you ever come to Rio, please, let me know.

Marcos.
