If I read everyone's posts thus far correctly, António José Jorge of Fajã Grande das Flores was married at least twice, and continued fathering children over the decades.
Besides his daughter Isabel (b. 1854?), he would have had TWO sons we know of named Francisco, born some 23 years apart -- the elder ca. 1848 by Anna Luíza being Isabel's older brother, and Debra's great- grandfather being Isabel's and the first Frank's much younger half- brother by Ana de Jesus (presumably not the same woman as Anna Luíza) in 1871. Do I have that correct? The elder Frank George reportedly never married nor had children, and worked hard as a farm laborer up around Butte, Glenn or Tehama County. He dropped dead in 1908 (of a heart attack, hemorrage or blood clot, perhaps?) out on some farmland, where his body was discovered. He was buried in an old section of Benicia Municipal Cemetery, and his grave is marked (I saw it in 2004). Since Isabel née Jorge was my great-grandmother, this appears to make Debra and me third half-cousins, if that's the correct term, since we share a great-great-grandfather (but not a great-great-grandmother) -- é pequeno o mundo!
