I came across the George family whom you mention living in southern Alameda County in the 19th century in US Census enumerations on Ancestry.com, and wondered at the time if they were any relation to my George family. It's worth bearing in mind that name researchers have calculated that "Jorge" is the Azorean surname most characteristic to a single island of any surname in the Azores -- specifically to Pico. This makes me wonder whether Debra's and my "Jorge" family immigrated to Flores from Pico (or perhaps they didn't have a surname at all till at some point when they adopted this one).
