Hi, Joanne!
I had been given the name of a person in the Diocese in Providence.
I thought I had written a nice email, but it was never answered. My
Mom's parents were from Austria and I thought the church in Warren was
St. Joseph but wasn't there anymore (according to a woman at City Hall
in Warren, whose surname was Azorian!!!). My grandparents had four
children long before my Mom was born. They died before the age of 2.
The first living child was John who was born in 1898 and at least one
baby was born after him who died. The parents' names are Lucya &
Sebastian Kozik. My Mom was the only one of the four living "kids" to
leave Warren because my Dad's (the Azorian side) job was in Boston. My
Mom never asked her parents much about family history because she
thought it was being nosy. What a shame. A cousin and I went to the
Catholic cemetery in Warren years ago and he showed me where the little
tombstones should be but he couldn't find them - against one of the
fences. I finally got four names out of my Mom and my Uncle John (whom
I wrote to because Mom wouldn't tell me anything!) gave me four names,
making five in all. Everyone in the Kozik family has died, including my
cousin. :-( By the way, my other Kozik uncle would go to the
Portuguese Hall there in Warren as it was almost across the street from
where he lived after he got married!)
It will be wonderful if you can help me! And if you need any more
information, just let me know!!!

Shirl,
I work in the Diocese of Providence and may be able to give you some
tips on how to ask nicely for the info you're looking for. What
church in Warren, RI are you trying to contact? Is it St. Thomas the
Apostle? They are the "official" Portuguese National Church in town.
Let me know if I can be of any help.
