Can you scan the original baptism from Joao Pedro Tavares and attach it to
the email?  You have a name, date, and place in the Azores!  That is
fantastic!  There are people that spend their whole lives looking for the
freguesia (village) over there.  You are quite lucky.

Once you send the original baptism and research back a little further (early
1800s), you'll probably start connecting with people on this list.
Generally, it takes about 200 years back to find another researcher who is
also researching your line.  Note that I said generally.  We do have a few
lucky ones that find this list and hit pay dirt.

You'll also need to learn to bumble your way through "reading" the
Portuguese records.  Many of us on this list are not native speakers.  We
have learned to "read" them and extract the info we need with the help of
each other as well as our native speakers on this list.  You can see some
