My cousin married Mariano Raposo who was from Rabo de Peixe, Sao Miguel. My mothers niece who my mother called here went back to marry him so they came here after the marriage and then he called his whole family here in early 1970's. He lives in Tewksbury, MA. I'm not sure if there is a relation there, but I haven't seen him since 2001 and 2009 briefly since my parents passed. He's about 66/67 years of age now.
It could be a stretch, but Mariano could be a ggrandson from that Raposo family in Rabo de Peixe. Rhode Island isn't that far from New Bedford. Maybe someone can do some checking around in RI and New Bedford. Just trying to help. The family story is that he came to the US and established a new family somewhere in Alameda county and when the new wife's brothers found out he had another family on Sao Jorge they killed him. I have not been able to find anything in Almeida. According to the arrival manifest that I found him on, it listed Southhampton, RI on where he would be staying. I'm convinced that the manifest is accurate, because it states that he is coming from Rosais, Sao Jorge which matches with where my mother-in- law is from.
