While I haven't any information on your ancestor, he seems to have led a colorful life. In anycase, I can, at least, submit one point of clarification. There is no place named Southhampton, RI - however, there is a town named South Kingstown, RI. Oftentimes destinations were listed arbitrarily, as immigrants weren't familiar with the places they were traveling to.
