I, too, have my great grandfather, Antone Joseph (AJ) (da)SILVA from Sao Jorge. João Ventura helped me locate this family through of a letter sent by AJ Silva's brother-in-law.

The CCA baptism record reads: António, son of António José de Quadros and his wife Maria Silveira, both native of Rosais, paternal grandson of José Teixeira de Quadros and his wife Maria de São João, deceased, and maternal of José Inácio da Silveira and Maria Silveira, deceased, was born on 15 October 1859 and was baptized on 13 November, in Rosais. Godparents were Mateus Silveira Gonçalves and his wife Ana de São João.

Antone Joseph Died 18 Feb 1937 in Siskiyou County. He is found in Siskiyou County in 1880 US Census. The 1930 Census says he was naturalized in 1877. AJ married Mary Anne MILLER (MELO)n Siskiyou county in 1883.

I need help in finding out how he arrived in Siskiyou County. A fairly large population of Portuguese Miners arrived in Siskiyou County in 1860's. They came as miners and turned to farming. He probably knew others. He was probably not poor.

Do you (or anyone on the list ) have an idea on where I could look for immigration information? Thanks in advance for your help. -DonnaO

Is there anyone working on family history for Sao Jorge? I am from
the Silva line out of Calhetta.
Looking for info on g g grandparents, ggrandparents' siblings, etc.
have posted before. I use Tribalpages. My great grand father was Jorge
Da Silva, his wife was Arminda Aurora Lui( z or s). George came to
America in 1898, Arminda came in 1906. I have George's immigration
papers and the release from the King. I have their marriage paper. I
have info on all their children. One person helped me find the ship
they came in on in 1906. But I am stuck going backwards since the rest
of the info is in Sao Jorge.

When George came in 1898 he had family with him. There were two. The
others got off in Brazil. There is family in Mass as well. Iam working
on that also.

Arminda had lived on Terciera prior to Sao Jorge. Her mother had died
on her family's boat. She was taken to Sao Jorge to be raised by
family since her father was a ships Capt.

I have some names that were listed on Calif death certificates. On
George's the name Neves was his mothers.
On Arminda's the name Diaz was on hers.

Thanks for your help,
Robin L
