There is no name index and probably will not be one for about 6 months. To locate someone, you must know the numbers assigned to the state and their enumeration district. Just a reminder that the 1940 Census is out tomorrow at 9am EDT! You may go to 1940Census.archives.gov and then eventually (don't know the exact date for these) but www.archive.com/1940census, FamilySearch.org and Ancestry.com.
