St. Edwards is listed as being in Newark on Thornton Ave., in the 2006 directory for the Diocese of Oakland. Newark is not the same as Irvington and Newark is not one of the districts that became Fremont. In this same directory, the churches listed for Fremont are: Corpus Christi on Secons T., near J. St. (founded in 1914); Holy Spirit on Fremont Blvd. at Central Ave. (founded in 1886), Our Lady of Guadalupe on Blacow Rd., near Fremont Blvd. (founded in 2000); St. James the Apostle (Old Mission San Jose), founded in 1797. I am not sure which of these was the church for the Irvington District. I just took the above information from the directory. Celeste

To: [email protected] Mike, Before becoming Fremont, Irvington was a district in Alameda County. If you are looking for records you will be looking in the Alameda County records. The church records will be found in the church in the district of Irvington. I can't remember the name of the church; however, I am sure someone on the list will know it. I don't understand Word of what is written there, where did you locate these so I know where to look. The O'Neill's are my great grandmothers 2nd husband but she had no children with him or with her 3rd husband Clare McNaney. Knowing that Irvington is now Fremont will help. The Faial records aren't online yet. can you tell where you're finding this out? The cemetery didn't tell me anything I didn't already know.
