Melody M,

If your Jose C. DeSilver was the immigrant, he was born as Jose C. da Silva.

I don't know what you mean by Portugal (Yarmouth, MA V.R.) Was he born in
Portugal or in Yarmouth, Massachusetts? V.R.?? Is that a typo for V.I.?
Virgin Islands? They are down around the Carribean.

If your mother's sources said Porto, Portugal, then that's the continent.
Sometimes, you will see Porto written as Oporto.

You'll have to research back to about the early 1800s to find anyone else
working on your line. Many people aren't interested in genealogy and don't
answer us.

Some people on this list do research the continent too. I'm not sure of
their online sources. Someone who know will post here. Otherwise, you'll
have to order film from your local Family History Center (FHC) and work
from there.

Good luck,
Cheri Mello
