Melody, In the 1880 census, the surname is spelled de Silva and it only says he was born in Portugal. Did you obtain a copy of the papers they filled out to obtain their marriage license. Not their marriage certificate but the paper they filled out to get it. Sometimes you have to pull teeth to get it but most of the time I have been known to "beg".
