Jose C. DeSilver b. 19 Jan 1829 Portugal (Yarmouth, MA V.R.); d. 19 March 1896 West Yarmouth, MA; m. Amanda Robinson, 19 October 1854 South Dennis, MA (All locations on Cape Cod.) Was in Civil War. Deposition papers say he first came here at age 15. Was called a Mariner & Soldier.
My Mom (passed 2011) was the real genealogist in the family so the above post is hers. I found through 23andme testing that I have a 4th cousin with family connections to Martha's Vineyard and I live on Cape Cod! I've written, but over two weeks, and no response. :-( Mom said that she thought they came from the Azores. I found a Yarmouth town record that said he came from "Porto". Last night, I found that there is a vila du Porto in Sao Maria in the Azores, I'm hoping this is where he's from, but no proof. I'm looking for: 1. Current family connection to the DeSilver line who is interested in talking to me about it. (another cousin's wife close by, didn't answer a letter sent). 2. Finding out exactly where he came from. I am not sure, but think that the family may be stonewalling me because there was rumor of paternity issues. But my DNA is showing a connection to this family that is unmistakeable. Any help, support, suggestions, connections are welcome!
