I finally found the baptismal record of Laurianna Florinda, who according to her death record would have been born about 1794. Of course, genealogy is always a mystery...her son-in-law said she was four years older than what she was! http://culturacores.azores.gov.pt/biblioteca_digital/PIC-MD-SAOMATEUS-B-1776-1799/PIC-MD-SAOMATEUS-B-1776-1799_item1/P284.html I know the year is 1798 and that her parents are Manoel Ferreira de Matos and Joanna Ignacia (still have not found their marriage record, not for lack of looking back over a 20 year period, not have I found other children of this couple).
