Actually, one of the weird patterns I've noticed on Pico is that women often 
had children up until their first grandchild was born. Late 40's was not 
uncommon to have children especially when there was no birth control. Some 
families had a dozen children spaced at 18-24 months apart.  (Many women don't 
hit menopause until their 50's.) 

Speaking as a woman, I'm so glad those days are gone.
