Group,

How popular was the name Emilia Amalia da Conceicao? Maybe a strange question
to ask, but I have one, in my lines (born abt. 1860), from Povoacao, married to
a Joao Furtado d'Araujo.

-Trevor Costa (ancestors da Costa Pevide in Furnas, Sao Miguel, and Camara
Vieira in Capelas/Bretanha, SMiguel) <- is that what we should do? :)

Probably Cousins

JR I remember from my earliest days on this site that we share common Cabral
ancestors. Did you notice on the record Pam sent that the father's name
appears to be Soeiro, instead of Soares. I know that sometimes Portuguese
people do this with names, such as when for a female the name Brandao becomes
Brandoa or Rapozo becomes Rapoza. You don't see it too much for males though.

Anyway for this particular line, Pedor Cabral had a son named Jose, who married
a Barbara Pimentel. They had a son named Manuel Medeiros ( where Medeiros name
came from I have no idea). He was the father of my gg grandmother Emia Amalia
da Conceicao Medeiros who married Joao Jacinto Brandao b.12 Aug 1855.

Actually Herb, the names Pimentel, Cabral and sometimes with Soares, appear
quite often in Nordeste. You will see that our ancestors used the names
interchangeably. Not good one way, as it confuses people, but on the other
hand, great because it expands your name base and and gives clues as to whom
your ancestors are, when records are missing. So I think the record Pam gave
you is correct. This Cabral line may be the same as mine. Not sure yet.

Pam I saw this marriage too and sort of dismissed it because the name was
Soares. It's possible she used Pimentel too like you say. I will check that
angle especially if nothing else turns up. Thanks a lot. Herb
