Dear Edgar, I don't agree with your judgment which seems rather harsh to me.
Speaking only for myself, my work on the list is a pleasant pastime, so the time is not really wasted. In fact, it helps keep the genealogical sleuthing skills sharp. Naturally, if I had been asked to drop everything to help somebody find a relative, only to find that I had been sent on a needless, time consuming fool's errand because someone had omitted important information, then I would be very annoyed. But that wasn't the case here. Of course, had I taken Helda on as a client, and worked for a fee, she would have needlessly wasted her money. My time would not have been wasted since I would have been paid for the time spent on the goose chase. I was impressed at how many people took up the search and how quickly we all got to the bottom of things.
