Are your Remigio's from Maia? For my family, the name comes into existence
around 1820. This starts with Antonio Pacheco de Resendes naming his son
Remigio Pacheco in 1799. Some of Remigio's offspring started to use the
surname Remigio Pacheco and Pacheco Remigio as their surname. When they
came to America around 1900, one family used Romiza (which I was told is
how the name sounds in Portuguese).

What are some of the Mello names you have in Maia? Do any adopt the
surname Mello Castanho around 1830-1840?
