I visited Sao Miguel, Pico and Faial in October 2014 for the first time, and was in awe at the beauty of the Azores. This trip was especially important to me since I always knew my maternal great-grandmother was from the Azores, but unfortunately my family has no other details about our genealogy. Since I was with a group, I had no time to visit the library in Ponta Delgada to research records. When I returned to the U.S., I was able to learn from a 2nd cousin that my great-grandmother Marie Nunes Mendonca was from Faial. She was married to Manuel Mendonca and they had five children: Joe, John, Manual (my grandfather), Alice and Mary. I have been told that Joe, John and Manual were born in Faial, but I do not know about Alice and Mary. They emigrated to Rhode Island, U.S.A. at some point. How can I learn more about the history of my relatives in the Azores? Thank you!
