Roberta Estes mentioned something along those lines too in the article I sent the link for (https://goo.gl/H0pq12) <https://goo.gl/H0pq12>
Again though, the tree issue is the user's responsibility. Not FTDNA's. Here's some stuff that goes on that I'm aware of as an admin. "Popeye" does NOT want his living people showing up in his tree. Depending on the setting in his genealogy program and depending on the display settings chosen at FTDNA, "Popeye" may have inadvertently made everything private. Do they go back and check? I don't know. Do they email admins for help? Not often. So that's a user error. Also, FTDNA has a setting for "Deceased people born 100+ years ago" and "Deceased people born in the last 100 years." Depending on what is entered in the genealogy program on the user's end, these get marked private. If "Popeye" has been doing genealogy a number of years while his parents were alive, he may not have put their death dates into his program. I can't tell you how many times people tell me that their parents are deceased and no death date is recorded. If there's no death date in the genealogy program then the algorithm cannot assume that the person is dead. That's why people in the middle of the tree show up as private too. I believe you can mark your 3Great as deceased and leave the death date blank in your own genealogy program and that will take care of the "private" problem in the middle of the tree. Right now, I'm helping a project member who was informed that his tree is private. It's not. I've checked with different browsers and FTDNA checked too. Again, it's something on the user end. Maybe a new computer. Rick Pimentel had some problems with his Windows 10 and FTDNA and finally got them to play nicely together in the sandbox, as I say. LOL So when you find no tree, you can ask when will they be uploading their Gedcom. And you can also state in the email if they don't know how to make a Gedcom, they can email one of the project admins for help. If the tree is completely private, it would probably be best if you email one of the admins so we can check their settings and explain to them how they work. This is assuming that they are part of the Azores DNA Project. We can't help them if they don't belong yet. We'll keep trying to help the best that we can :) Cheri Mello Family Tree DNA Admin (volunteer) -- For options, such as changing to List, Digest, Abridged, or No Mail (vacation) mode, log into your Google account and visit this group at http://groups.google.com/group/Azores.
